Asian arowanas are a beautiful fish originating in Southeast Asia.  They have been heavily exploited in the aquarium trade, and are listed as an endangered species by CITES (appendix I) and on the endangered species list in the USA.  The trade in Asian arowana throughout the world is monitored and regulated by CITES, however, in some countries, such as the United States, more stringent laws prevent their import despite CITES.
